Carbon Calories X Maison/Made

No marketing, just the facts.

Today, we are pleased to announce our collaboration with Carbon Calories, the premier carbon accounting firm on the market. What is carbon accounting? Well, it is a scientific calculation that determines how much carbon we as individuals can consume without impacting the environment beyond the 1.5C threshold set by the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP).

The difficulty with a problem as large and intrinsically intertwined with our societal cultures like climate change, is that it can seem so vast and complicated that it debilitates people who actually want to help and make a difference but feel that their influence is too small or insignificant. Carbon Calories set out to simplify and contextualize this problem by working with companies to determine how much carbon each individual person is alloted, per day, to better understand their individual contribution to climate change.

And this is what we did. By partnering with Carbon Calories, we discovered how much carbon we were consuming to create our 4 hydrosols, which, thankfully, was very little. This then means that for anyone who purchases our hydrosols, they have a very clear picture of how much carbon they are using when buying and applying our products.

Every aspect of the making of the product is analyzed and evaluated to determine its carbon footprint, from the electricity used to store the products in our studio, the gas used in manufacturing, packing, and shipping the hydrosols, the energy need to manufacture the glass bottles, the diesel in the tractor on the farm that grows the plants that are then distilled, the amount of propane used to distill those plants into a hydrosol, etc.

Literally - Every. Single. Step.

The numbers we gather from all these steps in our supply chain are then reviewed, analyzed, and calculated by Carbon Calories, which is an independent, 3rd party carbon accounting firm that utilizes the most up to date information on the climate crisis and fossil fuel consumption to generate the Carbon Statements you see next to our hydrosols. No marketing, just the facts.

This level of complete thoroughness is necessary because we (CC & M/M) want our customers to be confident and certain that what we communicate is the FULL impact, not simply a statement or two on “how we’re sustainable”. Carbon accounting, in this manner, is the only way to fully demonstrate, with actual full transparency, what our impact on CO2 emissions actually is.

This is going the full carbon distance, from start to finish. We are proud to be among the first companies in the world to not only go into this level of detail, but be able to share it and hold our heads high with the validation that our methods and products are indeed having a very very light and gentle impact on the planet.
