Creating a Biodynamic Skincare Company

I started my journey into skincare as a young, pre-internet teenager, navigating through the myriad of mainstream creams, tonics and masks offered at the local “farmacias” in Buenos Aires, and bathing with oats and clay treatments I blended for myself, with the hope of ensuring that my skin remained healthy and vibrant as it looked in those years, when it didn’t actually need much of what I was applying. This enthusiasm kept evolving through my 20’s, first while I was writing about beauty as a journalist in Buenos Aires (where I’m from) and then working in fashion in New York (where I live). At some point the wastefulness of the fashion industry became too apparent to continue to support and I decided to put my efforts and time into an honorable and sustainable endeavor.

I decided to delve into skincare formulation to make effective products using plants grown biodynamically in our herb garden. The positive ecological impact of adding plants into the world, and the control over the quality of these plants, is central to our goal of creating biodynamic beauty products.

To assemble skincare formulations requires extensive knowledge and work so I trained in natural cosmetic science and immersed myself into several courses in herbalism, perfumery, and aromatherapy. During this time, I began planting the first seeds (quite literally) of Maison/Made and documenting the journey of creating a biodynamic skincare company from literally the ground up, which is what you will find here in our journal.

By converting an idle, unused small piece of land in Burgundy, France into a flourishing biodynamic herb garden, we are attempting to plant some seeds that will hopefully aid, in a very small way, in keeping our planet healthy and thriving, and maybe inspire others to do the same. We have just begun with this adventure and this journal will be documenting our progress.
